Jackie Robinson #42
Where do I begin? The man was just unbelievable in everything he did. If he didn't break baseball's color barrier some 53 years ago, chances are you may have never seen Hank Aaron become baseball's home run king, or Larry Doby set the standard in the American League with the Indians, or Joe Carter win the '93 World Series for the Blue Jays with his game-winning home run. Jackie not only broke the color barrier, he shattered it. You can bet Branch Rickey's looking down on baseball with a smile on his face seeing how diverse it has become. I can only imagine what it was like to go to Ebbets Field in Brooklyn and see Jackie marvel the crowd with his unbelievable speed, power, and humility. Major League Baseball did a good thing in permanently retiring #42. A great deed for a great man and a great pioneer.
Here's one of his baseball cards from Topps.
Here's another of him just casually posing for a photo.
